I absolutely hate having tihs common blood disorder. I've had to take birth control to regulate my cycle because that's where the problem started when I was bleeding for several months nonstop. I'm taking one 325-MG ferrous sulfate tablet twice a day. the annoying part about that pills is the fact that I have to take it either two hours before, or two hours after eating. There's got to be an easier way to do this ...
How many of you on here have ever been prescribed a medication, then gone and not followed the doctor's instructions? I haven't been taking the ferrous sulfate as consistently as I should have, but I'm trying to get back in to the habit of taking it daily. Every time I ingest one of those pills, I immediately feel nauseous and want to lie down, but I can't lie down for half an hour because my body needs to absorb the medication. Okay, enough rambling for now. any suggestions for tihngs I can do to help make this problem go away, along with the iron tablets would be most welcome.

Okay, I am anemic, but I don't take pills. There are shots out there to regulate your iron level and the hemoglobin level. Ask your doctor about either Procrit, once a week dose and comes predosed, or try Aranesp which is also predosed and once every 2 weeks. Also if you're having trouble with your period there's a shot out there that works like birth control, but you don't have to worry about pills and stuff. It's called Depo-Provera, I think that's how it's spelled. This one is done every 3 months and if you want to get pregnant, just stop taking the shots as long as your doctor says it's safe for you to get pregnant.
I'm on the Depo and the Aranesp. The pills make my stomach upset and it also turns your poop red sort of.
The iron shots you can give yourself or have a friend give you, they're usually in your arm or the upper thigh or your stomach if you want. The Depo has to be given by a nurse and that's usually in either arm or your butt.
Good luck!

off the medication. I just have to eat a diet consisting of iron-rich foods.

I take the depo provera shot also, as my periods were too often, too heavy, and much too painful. I'm so glad to not have a period. The shot is a blessing!

I have had problems with Anemia since i was eleven. I took high potency iron for awhile, but now, i take a natural supplement that works like a charm. It is from www.vitamist.com It is a copper powder, and it comes in orange and lemon flavors. It is my saving grace.

I got it, I have iron deficiency, but only close to anemia. And yes I haven't taken them, or my theiroid tablets, for a while either. I'm back in to it now though because it's better for me, obviously. I only take one Ferrous Sulphate once a day though, so it's not too bad.

I agree about the period shots!! As for anemia, I am and take both an iron suplement pill and shots. You can take either procrit or aranesp for anemia if its really bad and if your blood levels of hemoglobin get really low, you might have to get a blood transfusion. Side effects of anemia are getting cold reallly easy for long periods, relally tired, no energy, bruises easily. I've never donw iron power as usually powder things are nasty, but might have a look at this one mentioned here.

I'm the same as pure love. I have a defficiency; not as bad as the original poster, but I was also adviced by the doc to go on the pill to regulate my periods.
I had an iron infusion last year but that didn't really help; it was back down again in a matter of months, *sigh*
I eat plenty of meat, fruit and vegetables too.
